The Advanced Scrum Product Owner certification course picks up where the Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) training course ends. In fact, a CSPO certification and a year of experience as a Product Owner is a prerequisite for the training. The ACSPO takes the novice Product Owner on an exciting journey, exploring the skills that make a Product Owner truly effective. These skills include mastery of the Product Owner role; product management in an Agile environment; working closely with customers and users; and advanced techniques for working with the Product Backlog.

A significantly more rigorous curriculum, the Advanced Certified Scrum Product Owner (ACSPO) includes in-person training time, self-study, and coaching time with the instructor. Certification is earned once the instructor believes that all of the learning objectives for the curriculum have been achieved.

Logistics

The ACSPO training includes a two-day, classroom-setting workshop for 6-16 students. Usually the classroom is set-up as tables of 4-6 students to enable small team discussions during the training. The class runs 8 hours each day, including 30-60 minutes for lunch and various smaller breaks. Achievement of the ACSPO will also include self-guided study on the part of the student as well as webinars and remote coaching discussions (e.g.,phone or Skype).

Course Objectives

At the completion of the course, students should be able to:

1. Discuss and skills and capabilities of the Product Owner, how the Product Owner can support the Development Team, how the Product Owner can hamper the Development Team, and explain why the use of Scrum in product development is important and effective.

2. Discuss the types of stakeholders with whom the Product Owners must engage, how those stakeholders differ in perspective and priority, and how to work with varying perspectives and priorities and find effective compromises.

3. Define technical debt, how it is created, what the Product Owner can do to lessen or worsen technical debt.

4. Explain technical practices that can improve Development Team efficiency and product quality and describe how each practice benefits the product and the customer.

5. Explain a number of scaling practices, meeting formats, and visualization that can be used by teams and organizations to improve effectiveness and productivity.

6. Explain and demonstrate advanced product management strategies including stakeholder communication techniques, business model canvases, and value proposition canvases.

7. Explain and demonstrate various techniques for building empathy and understanding across stakeholder groups, generating new product feature ideas.

8. Explain and demonstrate product discovery techniques and how they contribute to successful product outcomes (including user research, customer experience design, interaction design, usability engineering, and visual design).

9. Explain cognitive biases from which a Product Owner may suffer and the likely impact on product design.

10.Define and discuss techniques for measuring feature value and methods for ordering the product backlog.
