Advanced Certified Scrum Master Training (ACSM)

The Advanced ScrumMaster certiﬁcation course picks up where the Certiﬁed Scrum Master (CSM) training course ends. In fact, a CSM certiﬁcation and a year of experience as a Scrum Master is a prerequisite for the training. The ACSM takes the novice Scrum Master on an exciting journey, exploring the skills that make a Scrum Master truly effective. These skills include an strong understanding of Lean Development, Agile Development; mastery of the Scrum framework; facilitation; coaching; and the responsibilities of the Scrum Master to the Development Team, the Product Owner, and the Organization.
A signiﬁcantly more rigorous curriculum, the Advanced Certiﬁed Scrum Master (ACSM) includes in-person training time, self-study, and coaching time with the instructor.
Certiﬁcation is earned once the instructor believes that all of the learning objectives for the curriculum have been achieved.
The ACSM training includes a two-day, classroom-setting workshop for 6-30 students. Usually the classroom is set-up as tables of 4-6 students to enable small team discussions during the training. The class runs 8 hours each day, including 30-60 minutes for lunch and various smaller breaks. Achievement of the ACSM will also include self-guided study on the part of the student as well as webinars and remote coaching discussions (e.g.,phone or Skype).
At the completion of the course, students should be able to:
1. Compare and contrast Lean Development, Agile Development, and the Scrum Framework.
2. Explain the use of empirical process control in Scrum and identify common problems using empiricism with Scrum.
3. Compare and contrast convergent and divergent thinking; discuss how to integrate multiple frames of reference; deﬁne and discuss the use of facilitation listening techniques to support effective team workshops.
4. Deﬁne various coaching techniques and when and how to use them to support the functioning of the Development Team.
5. Deﬁne various techniques to support self-organization and how to use those techniques to support the effectiveness of the Development Team.
6. Discuss elements of team dynamics and team formation and identify ways to improve the effectiveness and productivity of the Development Team.
7. Deﬁne various agile engineering practices and how those practices can be employed by the Development Team to improve quality, effectiveness, and productivity.
8. Demonstrate a mastery of the Scrum framework by being able to discuss, at length and in detail: scaling practices, conﬂict management, and the ﬁve values of Scrum.
The ACSM certiﬁcation is dependent upon the following:
1. Documented presence at the in-person training
2. Documented completion of the required webinars
3. This will include:
•An online assessment performed following the in-person (classroom) training
•Discussion with the instructor in group or one-on-one remote coaching discussions
